# Terms of Service — TripBuddies

By installing or using TripBuddies (the "App"), you agree to these terms.

## 1. The Service
TripBuddies is a travel expense tracker that runs on your device and optionally synchronises encrypted data with other devices you invite. There is no user account, and we do not host your data.

## 2. License
We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these terms and the Apple App Store / Google Play terms.

## 3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code beyond what is permitted by law.
- Use the relay server to transmit data unrelated to TripBuddies functionality.
- Interfere with the operation of the App or relay infrastructure.
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose.

## 4. Your data and content
You own all data you enter (trip names, expenses, photos, notes, etc.). The App is designed so this data stays on your device or is shared peer-to-peer with people you invite. We claim no ownership and have no access to your content.
You are responsible for:
- Backing up your data (e.g., via the Excel export feature or by keeping invited peer devices in sync).
- Sharing trip invite links only with people you trust — anyone with the invite link can join the trip.

## 5. In-app purchases
The App may offer optional one-time purchases (e.g., "TripBuddies Pro"). All purchases are processed by Apple or Google. Refunds, where available, follow Apple/Google's policies — we cannot issue refunds directly. Purchases unlock features on the device that made the purchase; use Apple/Google's "Restore Purchases" to re-activate on a new device.

## 6. Third-party services
The App relies on Cloudflare Workers (relay), open.er-api.com (exchange rates), and optionally Google AdMob. Those services have their own terms. We are not responsible for their availability or behavior.

## 7. Disclaimer
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE AGAINST ALL POSSIBLE THREATS.
Currency conversions are based on third-party exchange rate data and may be delayed or inaccurate. Settlement calculations are best-effort and you should verify before transferring money.

## 8. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL WE BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION LOSS OF DATA, USE, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP.
Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us through in-app purchases in the 12 months preceding the claim.

## 9. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it. We may discontinue the App, the relay server, or any feature at any time without notice.

## 10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the **Effective date** above and announced in the App on next launch.

## 11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the **Hong Kong Special Administrative Region**, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles.
